Here you will find valuable information to support your child's health while at Bullis. This Canvas page will help you stay current with school health policies and topics of interest to keep our children safe and healthy.

Reminders

All Health Forms, Magnus requirements and Immunization are due no later than August 6 for new students and any expired physicals for returning students.
Students are not permitted to carry any medication (prescription or over-the-counter) on campus unless approved by the Nurse.
A student who is too ill to arrive at school on time should remain home for the entire day.
REMEMBER THE RULE OF 24 when deciding to send your child to school.
Your child must be fever-free without fever-reducing medicines for 24 hours and their symptoms are mild and improving, before returning to school.
Your child must not have vomited or had diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
If your child is on antibiotics for an illness, she/he/they must be on the antibiotics (whether oral, topical, or drops) for 24 hours before returning to school.
If your child starts a new medication, it must be given at home first so you can monitor for any adverse reaction for 24 hours.
Students visiting the clinic more than once daily will be sent home. Parents/guardians must pick up a sick child within an hour.
Keep your contact information up to date in the Parent Portal.
Report any contagious illness, such as strep throat, pink eye, influenza, Coronavirus, etc., to the School Nurse and send in a doctor's note if your child is seen by their doctor.
Immunizations must be in before your child can start school (New students and 7th graders, new vaccines).

Health Forms

Below are links and details regarding the health forms for Bullis. You can also download this information: Bullis Health Forms Letter.

Physical Form: A physical is required every year. If you want your child to receive any over-the-counter meds listed on the Bullis health form, your doctor must complete the above form. All new students must have a hearing and vision test provided with their physical from their previous school or doctor visit. All kindergarteners and New 1st graders must submit a lead testing certificate form. Only submit a Bullis physical form, not a camp form or parent portal summary.
Immunizations Certificate: Current students entering GRADE 7 must submit an up-to-date immunization record with their physical exam to verify an immunization has been received for a Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) and MCV4 (meningococcal type A, C, W, and Y). These two immunizations are usually administered around 11-12 years of age. All NEW STUDENTS must submit a complete immunization record before their child can start school. Allergy Action Plan and Asthma Action Plan: If your child has asthma and/or is diagnosed with anaphylaxis or potential anaphylactic reaction (life-threatening) related to a food/insect allergy, please be sure to download the Asthma Action Plan and/or the Food/Insect Allergy Action Plan for your child's healthcare provider to complete in addition to the Physical Exam form. You do not need to submit a Medication Authorization Form in addition to the action plans. Failure to submit an action plan will result in the school nurse or her designee treating an allergic reaction or asthmatic event according to the standing orders outlined by the School consulting physician until the required form is submitted.

Medication and Other Health Plans

The policy of the School Health Office at Bullis is always to make the safety and well-being of the students our top priority. Before administering any prescription or over-the-counter medication, the School Health office will require the prescribing health care provider's written authorization.

Bullis School's policy is that no student is permitted to self-carry or self-administer any medication during the academic day or on-campus school activities.

The exception to this policy is emergency medications, including asthma inhalers, epinephrine auto-injectors, and medications related to diabetes. Students may carry these medications if an authorized health care provider has ordered their use on the Asthma, Allergy, or Diabetic Emergency Action Plan and stated that the student can self-administrate. It is strongly suggested that an extra inhaler or epinephrine auto-injector be kept in the School Health Office for backup.

Maryland State Law and Maryland Board of Nursing do not allow the school nurse to administer any medications, whether prescription or over-the-counter (this includes eye drops), without the prescribing health care provider's written authorization. If you bring medication to school for your child, whether once or multiple times, and it is not accompanied by MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION AUTHORIZATION FORM, the school nurse or her designee will not be able to administer it to your child; you must do so.

Overnight Trips

Medication should be administered to students on school-sponsored field trips only when absolutely necessary. Parents/guardians serving as chaperones for school-sponsored field trips may administer medication to their children.

Students, except for asthma inhalers, epinephrine auto-injectors, and diabetic medication, may not self-carry or self-administer any prescription or over-the-counter medicines.

Parents/guardians will be asked to complete the Medication Authorization form sent to them a few weeks before the trip. Parents/guardians of the students requiring medication must deliver the medication to the School Health room one week before the overnight field trip. The school nurse will check and distribute the medicines to the chaperone at the trip's onset.

Medication must be delivered in the original packaging or prescription container with labeling intact. Medicine must be consistent with the prescriber's order to be accepted.
